Pavel Hlava

Pavel Hlava (1924-2003) was one of the pioneers of Modern Czech Glass. He had an extensive education and experience in art, design and glass techniques. His energy was divided between designing for the glass industry and creating free art until 1985 when he became a full time artist at age 61. Pavel Hlava received an amazing 30 awards and prizes during his life time and his work is represented in the permanent collection of over 35 museums.

Hlava created a number of unique and challenging bodies of work (often ahead of his time). Hlava uniquely contrasted the hard edge simplicity of constructed glass with the softness of a painterly image created either by blown elements or drawing between the glass components.
